Zapier is a no-code tool that connects apps: when something happens in one, it does something in another. For SEO, it's a quick way to automate small jobs like alerts, reports, and handoffs.

You publish a blog post. Then you have to remember to add it to the content tracker, tell the team, and check how it's doing in a month. Zapier can do all three the moment the post goes live, so nothing depends on your memory.

Who it suits

It's great for beginners and busy marketers who want something working today. It gets awkward for long, branching workflows, or AI agents that need to make lots of decisions.

  • Automating simple, single SEO tasks

An example: using Zapier for SEO automation

A simple publishing checklist. When a new post appears on your WordPress site (or in its RSS feed), Zapier adds a row to a Google Sheets tracker, posts a message in Slack, and creates a reminder to review the page's Search Console numbers in 30 days.

Where it sits on the automation ladder

Level 1–3. It's strongest at single tasks and short chains, and can include AI steps for simple jobs.

Our five levels of SEO automation run from single tasks, like a weekly report, up to systems that run the whole loop on their own.

What it does well

  • Quick to set up
  • Connects to a huge number of apps

Limitations and watch-outs

  • Complex, multi-step AI workflows are harder to build and maintain

Costs usually grow with how much you run, so a workflow that touches thousands of pages can get expensive. Check how pricing scales for your volume. And like any automation tool, it has no SEO judgment: it'll happily run a bad rule on every page.
